About the director

James McMahon has been directing choirs since 1986.  He studied undergraduate Orchestral Conducting and Arranging at Harvard University with James Yannotos, and graduate Choral Conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music with the Chair of Choral Conducting Tamara Brooks.  He has studied voice with and John LaBella and Kathleen Kaun.

James directed the congregational choir of Temple Beth Tikvah in Roswell, Georgia from 2001 – 2006.  He has also directed the Land of the Sky Chorus in Asheville and the North Carolina Harmony Brigade, a 140-man select Barbershop chorus.

James moved to Asheville in 2006 with wife Lauren Rosenfeld and their four children.

  1. Hello James–Are you looking for additional chorus members? Do you have to “audition?” Or can you join if you can carry a tune?! I currently sing with the Fletcher Community Chorus, but am also interested in Jewish music. Thank you.

    1. Come on down any time! No auditions needed, just a desire to sing Jewish choral music. Hope to sing with you soon!
