Rehearsal Agenda November 8, 2017

Dear Kol Simcha,

Those of you who were able to make it last week got a surprise: a new/old James arrangement. I strongly feel that this is a good song to have in our heads at the moment. Though we have a little time to learn it, it’s a challenge. So it would be great if you would download the learning tracks to help you learn your part while you’re driving, walking, etc.

Get the sheet music and all the learning tracks here: Brave

This week, we’ll focus on polishing up Brotherhood service for Friday. Here’s the draft cue sheet (might get tweaked): Cue Sheet 2017-11-10 Brotherhood

We get two whole rehearsals in a row before we support Brotherhood Veteran’s Day service on November 10th. We may also start work on the December 15th Chanukah service!

Looking forward to singing with you this Wednesday night!!

In Lieu of rehearsal tonight

Dear Kol Simcha,

At our rehearsal next week, we’ll learn the chorus to “Seasons of Love” from Rent, as requested by the Bat Mitzvah, for services 10/27. Sarah Kim will do the solo parts.

Here is the sheet music for the edited version we will do: 0809_Seasonsoflove

Here is a Youtube video, which represents the proper form and cut:

Since there’s no rehearsal tonight, perhaps you could take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with it. That will help us when we learn it next week!

Much love,
James

Tech rehearsal September 10, 2017

Dear Kol Simcha,

Yes, we will have rehearsal today, September 10, at 2 pm.

PLEASE NOTE that Karl Straus’s memorial service is at 1 pm in the sanctuary. Please be mindful so that we don’t interrupt the service by accident. Also note that parking may be tight. If the service runs long, we will wait quietly in Dave Hall until it’s over before moving into the sanctuary. If you’d like to attend the interment instead of rehearsal, please do.

Here are the cue sheets for Selichot and Rosh Hashanah:

No Kol Simcha rehearsal September 6, just Ensemble

Dear Kol Simcha,

Vance is so delighted by your progress, he’s giving you the week off! That’s right, no choir rehearsal this Wednesday Sept 6. The HHD Ensemble will still meet at 7 and rehearse their pieces, but unless you’re also in that, take a well-deserved rest.

Also, please see below from Steve Shulruff, and please continue sending your prayers of healing his way – they help!!

Love, James

Dear Kol Simcha,

I am writing to express my gratitude for your help at Mary’s funeral service. I was deeply moved by your willingness to sing at the service even though the Kol Simcha schedule is so incredibly busy these days. The singing was just beautiful. Eli, Eli was Mary’s favorite piece of liturgical music. She would have loved your rendition- I certainly did. Later as you all began singing the Spanish-Portuguese Oseh Shalom I started to break down since I knew we were nearing the end of the service. But slowly I found myself singing along (I actually remembered the bass part!) which really helped- it sure felt like we were all singing to her together. Thanks for everything- your understanding and support has been of great comfort to me over these past years. And I’m really looking forward to singing again with you all after the High Holidays.
L’Shalom,
Steve
